MOVIE: CHEF
DIRECTOR: Raja Krishna Menon
CAST: Saif Ali Khan, Padmapriya Janakiraman, Svar Kamble, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Sobhita Dhulipala
Stars: 2 and a half

Exactly 3 years ago, Jon Favreau served us with an appetizing “chef”, which gave cinema lovers a happy burp. Now Bollywood has decided to replicate the same menu with a better-looking cast and mind you, the film looks delicious.

And that’s the end of good things about the film.

Chef starring Saif Ali Khan has been directed by Raja Krishna Menon, who previously directed Akshay Kumar starrer “Airlift”. The film is an official remake of the Hollywood film of the same name which has got a Hindi movie masala treatment. The locations and the cooking shots have been pristinely filmed, and Saif Ali Khan, as we all know are a natural charmer.

Then where does it miss– all the places where the original plot succeeded have been poorly written and filmed. The coming of age-drama of a chef who has lost his touch with quality dishes, and the realization of the importance of having a family come late, really late.

CHEF

Music

The music of the film has been given by Raghu Dixit and he hits the note high.  Songs like Darmiyaan and Banjara have been placed well in the film and Shunga Laga Le is bound to make you feel to dance.

Star Performance

We all know Saif Ali Khan is naturally attractive and looks pleasing in every character he plays. While the actor seems at please in front of the camera, he still suffers the syndrome of ‘underplaying’ in emotional scenes.

Sobhita Dhulipala (Raman Raghav 2.O fame) is beautiful and she pays her part as a friend well. The one who stands out is Padampriya Jankiraman, who plays Saif’s wife. She’s such a likable face that you want her to be in every frame of the film. She has come a long way from regional cinema to Bollywood.

CHEP

Direction

Raja Krishna does his best to capitulate the essence of life hearted drama, set in the background of finger licking dishes. You feel hungry while watching the film. He just needs to avoid bringing clichés, which we find in bulk in this particular film.

Final Verdict: Save yourselves boredom and hunger. Rather binge watch original or watch India play football match today.
